Grant Showcase Gives Donors a Firsthand Look at Classroom Innovation

Community donor seeing paper crafts funded by teaching grants

The College Station ISD Education Foundation spotlighted innovative teaching and learning during its Grant Showcase at Wellborn Middle School on Tuesday, March 31. Donors and community guests visited classrooms to see grant-funded projects in action alongside teachers and students.

This year’s showcase featured three creative initiatives: Cutting Edge Creativity, where art students use cardboard cutting machines; iAct, iCreate, iPerform, which builds theater students’ audio and visual production skills; and Small Tasks Make Large Impacts, where students combine geometry and sewing skills to create quilts for veterans.

“Grant Showcase highlights creative instructional approaches in the classroom that enhance the educational experience for students,” said Gerry Brown, president of the Education Foundation Board of Directors. “It’s an exciting day to see how local investment supports local schools.”

The featured projects were selected from among 94 grants totaling more than $360,000 awarded this year in the areas of entrepreneurship, health, fine arts, STEM, agriculture, special education and student clubs. These grants benefit more than 14,000 students and 2,000 teachers and staff across every CSISD campus.

The CSISD Education Foundation has awarded 983 teacher grants totaling more than $3 million since its founding in 1999. Generous businesses and community members make these grants possible through annual donations and special events. H-E-B is the Title Sponsor of this year’s Grant Showcase. Pillar Sponsors include Aggieland Chevrolet, Amarillo National Bank, St. Joseph Health, Van Stavern Small Animal Hospital and VLK Architects.

CSISD staff also supported the Education Foundation by pledging more than $200,000 through this year’s employee giving campaign.
