The College Station ISD Education Foundation will establish two new endowments honoring longtime Executive Director Teresa Benden following generous gifts from her family and the organization’s Board of Directors. The endowments will serve as a lasting investment in education throughout the district and recognize Benden’s years of faithful leadership and service to the Foundation.
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Mark and Teresa Benden, the CSISD Education Foundation will establish the Benden Family Endowed Teaching Grant. The fund will support impactful classroom projects for years to come. The family announced the gift at Benden’s retirement celebration on May 20.
The CSISD Education Foundation Board of Directors also announced the creation of the Teresa Benden Legacy Endowed Scholarship to celebrate her dedication to the district. The scholarship endowment is intended to support students in their pursuit of post-secondary success.
“We are privileged to fund this endowed scholarship to honor Teresa’s service and retirement,” said Gerry Brown, president of the CSISD Education Foundation Board of Directors. “Her love for CSISD will live on through this annual award as it helps students move closer to their college and career goals.”
Since its inception in 1999, the CSISD Education Foundation has awarded more than $3 million in innovative teaching grants and $1.5 million in scholarships. Teaching grants have supported collaborative, creative, hands-on classroom projects, while scholarships have fueled career preparation in skilled trades, STEM, business, agriculture, education, healthcare and more.
“I am deeply humbled and incredibly excited by these endowments,” said Teresa Benden, outgoing executive director of the CSISD Education Foundation. “I’ve seen firsthand how investing in education strengthens not only our students, but our entire community, and I’m grateful to have played even a small role in that impact.”
